we have flattened the curve, hospitals are empty, why are we still in quarantine (New York: fencing, bus)

I am sympathetic to struggling businesses and to workers who lost their jobs permanently or ineligible for unemployment. Keeping kids confined in a 2 bedroom apartment is hard. I get that.
My original posts were directed at posters who claimed that they were going stir crazy because they were bored. I am not sympathetic to people without minors in their house. who are unable to alleviate feelings of boredom, while they are home-sort of-because no one is keeping them in this country confined within their walls. That sort of thing makes me angry.
Car accidents aren't contagious. They are also accounted for in the healthcare system every year.
really stop watching Fox news, your IQ will go up.
Your argument of not being contagious would work if he were comparing COVID to cancer and saying we don't stay inside to avoid cancer. But he's not. Closing down the roads would eliminate car accidents, so his analogy works. COVID has killed only 1 in 25,000 people worldwide. It doesn't justify the response that's been taken, which affects the lives of BILLIONS. Cheers!
So you’re saying that before this no children died? And don’t forget that each bar and salon is a small business that someone has money and time sunk into. Would you feel the same if it was your family’s livelihood being closed down based of somebody wanting to save every child with a pre-existing condition.
Yes, many politicians are having their moment in the sun. Mayors and governors can finally be heroes, or in reality seem to be heroes. They also can do so and blame their already bad economic policies on an outside force and look for a bailout from the Feds which will in turn tank the economy of the country. BTW, closing down the economy has turned out to be the easy decision, and made sense for maybe the first three weeks, but opening things up is the though one because guys like Cuomo and Wittmer have panicked many of their citizens by lying or just being illogical about this event.
Of course I'm not saying no child died, that's just bizarre. What you must understand is that for as long as people cared about their children they took steps to safeguard them, sometimes with the prodding of the government. Do you resent the government for swimming pool fencing regulations? For child seat requirements? For carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms?
You have no idea how I or anyone in my family gets their income and how much it has been affected by this crisis but I would much rather have this danger controlled the first time then let run rampant to repeat its killing cycle because those of little information and short attention span demand it be ignored.
And yes, I absolutely want to save every single child with a preexisting condition; it may not be possible in every case but I'm not ready to look the parents in the eye and tell them my car payment is more important than their kid's life.
You still haven't explained what any politician has gained by making the tough choices to save lives even if those lives don't matter to people like you.
3 big box stores just filed for bankrupcty ... J Crew, Macys & JC Penney
If big stores like this can barely stay afloat, small business have a much harder time. Just bc a person or business is struggling doesnt mean it was poorly run
Really? This is because of the coronavirus? Seems to me I've been reading about the demise of big brick and mortar retailers for years with these specific retailers mentioned well before COVID-19 ever reared its ugly head. This will just get them some ill-advised government cash at our expense as they continue down the inevitable road to their ends.

They may have already been going down that path but I’m sure COVID exacerbated it. Regardless many more businesses big & small will shutter for good

Your question wasn't directed at me, but here are some possibilities:
Cuomo:
- a daily TV show with higher ratings than his moron brother.
- absolute power - he now runs NYS as if he were king
- a step closer to being a presidential candidate (at least in his own twisted mind)
- national acclaim and notoriety as the media fawns over him
- higher approval ratings from a misled public who thinks he the savior of NYS
- Governor for life with the potential for a good cabinet position in DC in between terms
Many of us still think he is a complete a-hole. However, gains to a politician are a very subjective thing.
This is all despite the "tough choices" for which there is no proof any lives were saved vs. other measures that could have been taken. Even if you like his approach, the timeline shows he was late to the party.
What is certain is that many seniors were needlessly exposed to and died from the virus as a direct result of Cuomo's edicts to the nursing homes. Cuomo is not a hero, he is a murderer. If anyone in the public sector did the same, they would be tried as a criminal, be sued in civil court, and be forced to resign immediately. His biggest gain is the abilty to get away with it unscathed, only needing to say "oops."

Here's an article from late January, before anyone was looking at the virus as a game changer. JCPenney was doomed and dropping. The others are similar.

JCP was clearly like Sears - dying regardless. But I’m not sure JCrew necessarily would have had to file - they were about to spin off their Madewell brand. There will be more retail casualties over the next quarter or 2.
Perspective is everything - the same people who mock the lockdown as exaggeration of every death being blamed on CV19 are arguing that all businesses are failing due to CV19. Yet, completely blind to the fact that we have been slowly boiling sitting there like frog soup.
Newsflash... our economy was in trouble before this started, government has slowly been robbing us of our "liberties" bit by bit for hundreds of years (really accelerated after 9-11), they have been mortgaging our future pretty much since they took us off the gold standard - we have essentially been a nanny state for more years than I can count.
Yet suddenly people "woke up" because they are bored and can't get a haircut? Amazing.
The best part is more and more people have been conditioned to disregard media and have bought into giving complete and unchecked power to one political party - which logically goes against everything this country was founded on. We are such suckers.

There are retail casualties every quarter.
If it's of interest, I have never heard of the Madewell brand until now, and while not a big shopper, am reasonably informed of business conditions and developments. I do note now that the Madewell IPO, originally scheduled for last September and delayed twice had already been scrubbed but may provide a spark of income coming out of the COVID shutdowns. It seems that a merry go round of retail upper management were unable to get the handle on online shopping, which could have been J.Crew's saving grace during this crisis.
