Even the "sky is falling" folks are wondering if Suffolk had just 6 Covid-related deaths yesterday (and they did, see here) why on earth they are required to hire 400 (not a misprint) contact-tracers before moving to step 1 for reopening.

Nassau, who had 7 Covid-related deaths two days ago, has the same peculiar requirement. Here

If we have 0 deaths, the requirement still stands at 400.

No wonder there is a bit of impatience out there.

Find me an antibody test (below $200) and a place to buy masks in bulk for my biz and I'd start to entertain all the ding dongs in here who want to reopen now. I'm ahead of many and backordered 5+ weeks. Open all day, until there is testing and supplies, no dent will be made in the economy. None.

We can build battleships, tanks and planes in weeks, but cannot come up with a few million paper masks and purell?! Puh-leeze! Total failure of leadership to prepare, unify, communicate, inspire and protect. Instead of pushing supply lines, they are more interested in crowbarring in laws to prohibit against suing employers when they coerce you back to the office with no masks, sanitizers and crap ventilation and you get sick and die. Azz backwards.

Contact tracing is intended to contain outbreaks in the future, it seems like you think they are hired to count dead people?

Actually, I am thinking if the virus is not causing death, we may not need 400 new tracers in Suffolk and 400 new tracers in Nassau dedicated to tracing the virus in each county. Crazy? I can think of several other illnesses that cause very little death that have 0 contact tracers specifically assigned.

We didn't need any contact tracers to tell us 7 Nassau residents died with the Covid-19 virus Saturday and 6 Suffolk residents died with the Covid-19 virus on Sunday. So your notion that 400 of them in each county are needed to count 7 and 6 (respectively) is especially far-fetched.

How far less than 0 deaths would we have to go for you to say we don't need 400 contact tracers in each county dedicated to tracking the virus? Is there a number?

Therein lies the problem. People think they are put into quarantine due to the stay at home order. If you really were quarantined you would know it immediately. However most of us are not so we are free to go out and do whatever we do. Just because bars and salons are closed doesn't mean we're in "quarantine".

with all respect, lets remember that in early March, we had "just fifteen cases, and it's going down to one shortly" .

Exactly. It's this victim culture that has been created from the top down... everything is "unfair". Boo hoo hoo, I'm a victim... and to "prove it" I created this false equivalency like being in quarantine (which they clearly are NOT). Sad.

So you've created your own little bubble where you make up the rules that you're supposedly following... awesome.

I guess we all had imaginary friends when we were kids.

No doubt there have been predictions from esteemed experts and otherwise that have proved false. Some wildly understated and some wildly overstated.
