The sick stay locked down in quarantine not the healthy!!!
At first the lockdown may have made sense. The reports were scary; a highly contagious disease, no known cure, no vaccine, allegedly high fatality rate. Then the fatality rate estimates dropped sharply, from 4% to a fraction of 1%. But the problem, we were told, was "flattening the curve" so that the hospital systems would not be crippled. Now they are empty. This article is about one of the worst-hit hospitals in NYC, From Chaos to ‘Scary Silence’: Elmhurst Hospital After the Coronavirus Surge.

If there are not other agendas it would seem to make sense to go back most of the way to normal tomorrow, perhaps filled stadiums and Broadway theaters seating groups of people who come together, spaced out. And using the time gained to gear hospitals up for a feared spike that may occur because of the artificial suppression of activity. And maybe cruise ships should wait a while. But otherwise, get the lanes of the economy open.

Agree 100%. This is beyond ridiculous now.

It's tragic. Why don't people put up a fuss? We're Americans after all.

This is still a highly contagious disease and we do not have the testing capacity, only a small percentage of people are being tested and even then many of the tests are inaccurate. We do need to reopen with extreme caution and solid guidelines or this can easily spread rapidly. We aren't going back to normal for months in the meantime we need to decide how to reopen and how much risk we can tolerate.

This is far from over.

This does seem reasonable.

While it is true that not everybody has been tested to see if they have the virus (and re-tested in case they catch the virus the following day and...) and it is true there is no vaccine (and may never be a vaccine) and it is true there may be a second wave (and a third...) I don't think those notions conflict with your commonsense conclusion.

The stubborn facts regarding death rate (specifically when considering extrapolated antibody test results) and the low (very low) LI deaths now from this virus (averaging 13* Nassau+Suffolk Covid-19 deaths with Covid-19 combined the last 3 days within a population of 2,800,000) and the possibilities of continuing and improving protections of the nursing home/serious underlying condition folks further buttress your conclusion.

Finally, absent other agendas, a return to prudent normalcy is warranted.

*For a bit of context, on an average pre-Covid day on LI, a combined (Nassau + Suffolk) 62 people per day died. https://www.lihealthcollab.org/news-...on-long-island

This is far from over.
And you, are part of the problem. Humans have fought viruses head on, not hiding.

No, it's not beyond ridiculous. The virus is still there, people are still catching it and dying from it. It won't be over until we have enough testing and contact tracers.

You know what's hilarious about that? This could have been Trump's opportunity to secure him re-election. Had he taken this virus serious when his advisors were telling him to he would have been hailed as a hero. It's sad that you think a virus which has no brain can decide which president it wants elected.
