it is the same as a nyc resident when it comes to rifles and shot guns ...you can buy one outside of nyc and you need the permit to posses it in the city but you can still buy one.
actually you can have it for 72 hours in the city limits if you buy from a dealer . you need to apply for the permit and turn the rifle or shotgun over to nypd to hold until your permit comes through months later .
many long island stores though wont sell to nyc residents with no permit as they are required to fill out paper work and notify nypd as a heads up ...nypd usually does not check things out since people do buy for 2nd homes .
but long arms require no permit outside of possession in nyc .

we just can't carry ... anyone can get a premise permit with a clean record and that is for handguns .. long arms like rifles shotguns are less strict ... you need a permit to posses in nyc longer than 72 hours but buying them is unrestricted and just uses back ground checks . you cannot buy handguns until you have a permit and a purchase order authorization in nyc .
i live in nyc but if i remember long island is still using not a premise permit but the old target hunting permit . there really is no such thing ..it is a restricted carry permit

So what is the alternative? A group of animals throwing bricks through your window while you sit there and say “ please do not do that. We are on your side”, don’t think so. If they learn to shoot and how to handle a gun, it’s better than nothing. The fact that a family of five could point five loaded guns at a group of morons, it could deter them. Eve if one of them shot a warning shot into the ground, the mob might continue walking by. You really believe that everyone who owns a gun is a marksman? What you wrote is probably true for the majority of gun owners. But, they are still safer with one than without,
Statistically a baseball bat is as effective at reducing property damage and guns statistically tend to make interactions MORE violent, rather than deter the crime, but who facts shmacts. Guns make us FEEL safer more than they MAKE us safer, but that is cool. I like to feel safer. Oy, so it's a gun thread now. Why are they in the street? Fix the systemic problems. No one is looting my Levitt home. I'd make them a sandwich. They clearly have much bigger problems than I do. If they are armed, my gun matters. If not, NCPD will be more than glad to lock my ass up, too. They don't like YOU and ME having guns anymore than looters and rioters in the streets. WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM. Some are just too brainwashed, simple or daft to get it. ALL ON THE SAME TEAM. There are parties who WIN when the populace is DIVIDED. Most will end up dead by their own gun or have it stolen. It's good to know so many novices who cannot hit the side of a barn are now "strapped." Although it's more likely they'll kill themselves or a loved one before saving their palatial Levitt estate from rioters or SWAT teams. I love guns, everyone should own one. But if you think it will save you, good luck. Better to rely on your brain for that. But that's a long lost art. You can't line up outside Coliseum Gun Traders to buy a brain.

A group of rioters outside my home doesn't qualify as "close." Let's stay on topic. It's not a gun thread. It's about "peaceful protest." Many threads already on home defense, handgun v shotgun, karate vs BJJ, ESP vs clairvoyance.
And just saying "requires no aiming at all" is one reason why they will NEVER loosen the draconian gun laws around here. Grandpa or Officer O'Malley most likely to get shot. That and legally armed brown people? No way, Jose! The protesters might show up armed, like the white ones did.

this is not correct ...actually , yes , you do go out and just buy one , unless there is a problem in the insta check data base with you .
The change to 30 days , will apply when a federal instant background check returns inconclusive results for a potential gun buyer. it is still instant for those who have no questions arise.
when the insta check came back inconclusive the authorities had 3 days to respond and show why not ... now it is 30 days for authorities to show why not .
most sales go right through and have no issues so they are on the spot.
