I want to put up a $500 shed that I bought at Lowes in my yard and was wondering if I needed a permit. I know I can call the town, but I wanted to see if anyone had a quick and easy answer for me. The shed is roughly 8' by 6' and apparently can be put up and taken down easily (according to the box), so it would not be a permanent fixture in my yard.
Well, It depends. Sounds small enough not to require one. Most accessory structures need to be 10 feet off the property line which probably puts it in the middle of the back yard.
IMO, if its that small, just put it up, you should be fine.
FYI, this is probably the only situation I would say not to get a permit
In town of Hempstead, permits are required for all sheds. It is relatively easy to file for a shed permit and will cost under $200 if you get the permit before you build it. The set back is 2' from the side and rear except if it is a corner house it must be 2' & 2' from the inward corner.
I want to put a 10'x12' shed in backyard 3 ft from property line and 6' tall. You think I need a permit ?
Do you need a permit? Up to you. Does the town require one? Yes.
