after being put on a continuous lockdown, which was extended every to weeks from march to June, now the governor now says it will take MONTHS before we enter phase 4. If you noticed they keep extending the lockdown. They lied, they said if we saw infections rise in NY we could roll back, but now they are using data from other states, to justify more lockdowns in NY.

the kids arent going back to school this year, and if they do all it would take is one to be sick with corona virus to justify another lockdown. But they still want you to pay your school taxes....

Shopping malls, gyms and movie theaters won't be allowed to reopen in Phase 4, an aide to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Tuesday night.

"There are some things that don’t fit neatly into a phase that are going to require further study and we’re going through that right now," Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi said. "We’re not going to be like other states that are inviting a second wave.”

Long Island will enter Phase 4 in two weeks, on July 8.

The sources said a state official told local business executives and politicians on Tuesday that Phase 4 businesses are being divided into subgroups, with some opening earlier than others. The difference could be a couple of months, the sources said.

Cuomo’s decision affects all the state’s 10 regions; Long Island and New York City have been the last to reopen, with upstate several weeks ahead. Businesses in Phases 1, 2 and 3 have reopened together on the same dates, depending on where each region is in the reopening process.

The sources said Cuomo will release details of his Phase 4 reopening plan on Wednesday, including guidelines for the sectors in Nassau and Suffolk counties that will reopen July 8.

Besides malls, gyms and movie theaters, Phase 4 includes colleges, public schools, museums, bowling alleys, catering halls and other places where large groups gather.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, who has lobbied to move shopping malls into an earlier phase, expressed disappointment with the governor’s decision.

“We’re facing a fiscal crisis, and malls are more than just a big job-provider for our residents. They’re also a critical source of sales and property tax revenue for Nassau County,” Curran said. “Our malls are ready to put protocols in place to keep both employees and shoppers safe, and I will continue to advocate for their reopening."

Curran is among six leaders on Cuomo’s Long Island Regional Control Room, which monitors health care metrics to advise the state on whether to continue reopening the local economy or to pause because of a spike in coronavirus cases.

As I read this, the first bunch listed as Phase 4 are now a firm no-go ("malls, gyms and movie theaters") and the second bunch still may be a go.

"Besides malls, gyms and movie theaters, Phase 4 includes colleges, public schools, museums, bowling alleys, catering halls and other places where large groups gather."

That’s just BS. I’m so sick of this guy stringing us all around and moving the goal posts as previous set dates are approaching! But it was ok for 1,000’s of protesters to gather for weeks!

Its all about his federal bailout that we don't deserve. Not the fed gov problem that the state was operating paycheck to paycheck. Record highs in the markets and a booming economy for the last 10 years and NYS couldn't put away a dime for a rainy day.

Does anyone NOT believe that this is a political ploy to suppress the economy prior to the November elections?

I'm left leaning but this guy I've had just about enough with. With Cuomo its been so obvious how he's subtly tried to drag this out as long as possible for the purpose of November election. Was looking forward to going back to the gym finally, in 2 weeks. Now who knows when.

New York is going blue anyway so what purpose exactly would he have in doing that?

If you have to ask that then you don't understand the big picture.

Yawn, same boring false pretense. So stop subsidizing Kentucky and Mississippi and keep that money here for your rainy day. The US govt is almost $10T in the hole and printing play money non-stop (ie DEBT) but once again, NY, cash cow to the nation is the bad one.
