261K and 14K active outages as of the current outage map (last updated at 10pm last night). I don't trust Newsday numbers. They're reporting this -
"PSEG Long Island said approximately 160,000 customers remained without power overnight, down from a high of about 420,000 who lost power due to Tropical Storm Isaias. But this morning, the utility's outage map said more than 271,000 customers were without power."
Any way you look at it people will be out of power for days to come.
Still have family without power, still "pending investigation" and now ETA is Saturday night at 11pm for restoration.
All the more reason for investing in a generator and having enough gas on hand.
PSEG outage map is strange. Zoom in on a street and you see no outages. Zoom out a bit and you get a colored shape stating X# customers affected, power to be restored by tomorrow 4 am. Zoom in or out a bit more and that disappears.
Then there's the overlapping ones for areas. One shape says today at 3 pm, another overlapping says tomorrow 2 am.
Since we are talking about power outages....Here's a driving lesson. If a traffic light is not working, its considered a 4 way stop!!!!!!!! I see idiots driving 60 mph through non working lights on nichols road, and Rt 347. What is wrong with people?
My mom found out that the utility pole in front of her house was rotted and infested with termites. it did not fall down but it is cracked and split at the bottom and town inspector said a new pole needs to be installed by PSEG so who knows when that will take effect.
Management has to follow the union rules so it is the unions that are the problem. I work for one. I hate it. Sure, I reap whatever minimal benefits I get from them. I certainly do not need their protection because I come from the private sector and do actual work to the point where I have been told to slow down. All I see are most co-workers doing the bare minimum to get by while I run around like a chicken without a head. And you cant fire them, just like teachers. They are safe and protected for life when they would be fired in an instant in the private sector.

I've seen that too. Too many people who don't remember how to drive. And forgot everything they learned.
Nice that PSEGLI can't maintain accurate statistics. Think of it this way - if they can't accurately track and report outages and restorations, how confident are you that they can fix them in a timely manner?
Part of that is not moving the electrical grid underground.
