I just remember the season of $4 COD oil and was happy I locked in at $2.50.
Where I live now I locked in my natural gas rate but we’re talking maybe a max of $50 a month more in the dead of winter if I end up guessing wrong. And if you don’t lock in you pay the artificially high floating rate which is 2x the lock in rate.
Any recommendations for oil heating contractors in Nassau incase something comes up? I've always gone through COD but boiler is now 6 years, maintained but something will probably happen some day.
COD is great if you don't require service, can do it yourself or can get a reasonable 3rd party contract. Many can't. That's why like all things, YMMV. One size doesn't fit all. Saving on oil with 2 choices (COD or Full Service) isn't exactly fiscal brilliance, but a smart move if it works for you. I pay an extra $.50/gal. 3rd party contract is $400. Use 750 gal in a cold season. 750 x $.50 = $350. Add $100 for the full service contract and I'm net -$50 for the year vs COD but I get 24/7 soup to nuts service I'm happy with, get my tank topped regularly without having to call so I'm not burning crap from the bottom of the tank and the cost is a wash. Poor bastard math.

Or you can do the sc#mbag thing and during the contract if the price drops a lot get 100 gallons snuck in COD.
Not sure about OP but I filled up 3 weeks ago for $1.22 a gallon.
