The new Country Pointe homes are $40k taxes? Why haven't I seen any relief in the rest of the town for recent years then? Where's all the money going? Why wasn't that burden there before and is now? It's a small area in the grand scheme with no kids in schools. This taxation and thievery by those it's going to is all a flaming pile of horse manure.
Those condos will be 20-23k after the phase in. Don’t forget the SD got 10 million from the developer as a bribe to be in favor of the development. We all know that extra tax revenue isn’t going to drop your taxes. Especially since the enrollment is up.

Exactly. That tax base never existed before but now all of a sudden they get $20k plus a year in school taxes from how many homeowners? Where is the money going? No one cares. We have da best skoooools!!! They’re not getting exponentially better every year. Take off the blinders. If you had your kids in a private school that raised their rates that much every year the school would either go out of business or be under independent review at the request of the clients!
It’s definitely the player. Good unintended analogy though.
Like these waaaay over paid athletes.
Millions of dollars and a podium just to chase a ball around.
Stupid on sooo many levels.
I'm waiting for someone to run for county executive on the platform that they'll cut taxes by 30%. They'll cut whatever services necessary, lay off as many people as it takes, go to war with the unions, etc.. But the taxes would get cut.

That would make for an interesting election.
Unless that platform involves dissolving individual school districts and consolidating into one countywide school system, 30% of county taxes won't make a significant dent in a tax bill.
The solution starts by not blindly approving the school budget every single year because "it's for the children."

thats what the need to do.
there is no reason bellmore should have 2 high schools, and like 5 elementary schools.
should be 1 high school, 1 elementary school. every town has to many schools!
why is there a forest lake elementary school in wantgh and a wantagh elementary? they are 1.5 miles away from each other! You just need one! how much could they save if they closed one?
in a democracy majority rules, are you telling me these 2 schools represent the majority of the people in these towns? no! they dont have enough votes in those 2 little schools.

umm, not to be devils advocate (or actually make people take responsibility for their own vote) but the budget is so meticulously laid out every year in 4-5 board meetings open to the public. Take off the blinders could be construed as show the F up and challenge the officials. Every line item in detail is supplied leading up to the vote. People just like to bish and moan, rather than show up and effect change. Yes, they have little power to change the budget, but they might have more credibility if they actually knew what was in it. Basically, contractual raises, special ed mandates and transportation drive every increase 5+% (forget health care, that increase must come from reserves). The tax cap is 2%. The officials try to cram 5% down to under 2%. It usually takes some tweaking of reserves, juggling debt obligations (can be deducted from state aid) and prayers that state aid will come through.
...but yes, tenured teachers get paid way too much. Apparently, in the real scheme of LI life, no one cares. lol. Cop and teacher ponzi is critical to employment numbers now. No putting that genie back in the bottle.
