Anyone has experience with Navien combi-boilers or Navien brand in general? My HVAC guy recommended it, but I can't seem to find much reviews on them online.
Navien is middle of the road as far as quality and reliability. They arent bad. But arent great. I have one, myself.
Overall, these combi units are a mixed bag. They will save you money in terms of gas used but they are maintenance hogs. They have to be flushed yearly, which costs anywhere from $250-$500 depending on your plumber's charge and you have to replace the condensate neutralizer once a year as well, another $40 if you do it yourself, more if you have a plumber do it.

Totally agreed. Very expensive to maintain and repair. Plumbers charge $200 just to diagnose the problem of a Navien. I would go with a Bosch Greenstar 151 unit instead, if there isn't much of a price difference.

Yeah eff that. My hot water heater cost me $800 with material to install myself. There is no maintenance other than draining it once a year. It should last anywhere from 12-18 years with proper maintenance. I just don't see how a navien is more efficient.
Lol, people are paying plumbers $500 to flush the boiler? 1st of all, doing it yearly is ONLY needed depending on your water supply. Every township has different water tests that are published yearly. 2nd, is any schlep can do it their self using a $30 pump, and in 15 minutes. Stop paying people to do something so simple.

Its not a 15 minute procedure and you have to follow the process of isolating the boiler from the rest of the system before flushing. Its not hard, but its not meant for the homeowner to do, either.

I am a homeowner with a navien combi-boiler and flush it myself.
