Interesting note my friend just sold his house in less than a week outside of Nashville for almost 100k over asking after a bidding war. He was shocked. Other than cheaper taxes it Dosent look like there are any “cheap” desirable areas to move to right now, prices are just crazy all over.

Yup. There’s a housing shortage plain and simple. Housing materials are through the roof so people are getting priced out of new builds. Eventually it will correct. Just have to wait it out. Between covid and this I fee bad for anyone who had been plotting a long distance move for whatever reason. It’s hard enough to do that without the current shenanigans.

Yes there is a shortage everywhere. But there is actually ground to build elsewhere. Not here on LI. Will be interesting to see how it plays out here.

I was talking about adding a room as in a reno. Now, from my POV, I don't consider a 5 bedroom house as massive. In my world it is a bigger house than many, but by no means massive. Gaudy and massive are both subjective terms. I think massive is a little easier to define for most. Gaudy is a but harder, in my opinion.

I will say that I have never been in one of the LI estates that I felt were gaudy. I love old homes and architecture and while I find the baroque details in many not to my taste, I do not find them to be gaudy. In my mind gaudy is a very different thing.

There is a book on that, but in regards to NYC. It focuses on wealth and how the wealthy dictate the reclaimation of the city center. It is historical perspective, not conspiracy theory on the rich.
IE City center was super noisy, crime ridden and the wealthy lived in Bowery, UES and Greenwich Village( only section not to follow a grid pattern). Once electricity and lights were prevalent, the City center was retaken. Consequently, the poor had to travel further away for work.
