Everything is Covid related. Additional funding needed for cleaning, remote learning, technology equipment for remote learning, as well as teachers for in-house learning. Cost for goods & services, PPE. The list goes on! NOW ADD in inflation on top of that!

These “Funding Bills” are paid by who? THE TAX PAYERS.

In a modern day miracle commack schools had 1/2 point drop in the school tax rate. My buddy got a $16 hike on his 10k because town and county hikes. I’m not in commack schools and got a $250 hike that’s total including town and county.

They should have plenty left over from last years budget with the shut downs to off set it. But no one talks about that.

They still have everyday expenses such as building maintenance, rent, still have salaries to pay (BOTH IN HOUSE & remote learning), COVID Cleaning, this list goes on.

“The Budget” is THE TAX PAYERS. They always pass the “Budget”. So who’s to blame?

Nobody to blame but the taxpayers. They vote to approve ridiculous budgets year after year because "it's for the children." This is the only budget that citizens have direct control over (also the largest portion of tax levy), and they either approve it or don't bother to show up... then spend 364 days a year complaining about it.

Politicians are afraid to go after the school districts because they'll be seen as anti-child, and Districts would never consolidate because then affluent towns would see a property value drop, lose the exclusivity of their address, or have to see their kids mingle with undesirable lower class kids.

I mentioned that last year when schools were practically all but closed, all music, sports and art programs were shut down. My argument was there is far less building maintenance cost, electricity, security, etc so all of those costs should be refunded. I was told that it costs more for remote learning. School has to pay for any home’s internet fees if they didn’t already have it. They also had to provide chrome books to everyone that needed them. They have answers for everything.

You couldn’t have said it better! Anything for little “Johnny”. God forbid they do with just a little less. All these additional programs that is.

not so much the salaries this time. Our district had a "summer camp" for everyone K-12. Among offerings were music and creative writing, along with free lunch for all. Granted, that was with stimulus $$. But why not put some of the money away for the future ? Was there a mandate to spend every cent the districts received?
