Fully vaccinated daughter who is a 1:1 Special Ed Para for a Nassau Public School still caught Covid. She was sick and had to quarantine for 5 days. Was not paid for those days. Really????? Was she supposed to go to work Covid Positive.

I have worked as a Para in Suffolk years ago but was part time and did not get benefits although I know that the full timers did get health benefits and sick days. As a full time hourly Para in Florida, I definitely got health benefits including 10 paid sick days a year. Tell me that benefits in Florida are better than in NY.

My gut feeling is that she is lying.

The answer is contained in her Collective Bargaining Agreement or contract with the district, or any adopted agreements. There isn't one answer for all of Nassau County.

Anyone that misses work due to Covid or being quarantined due to exposure is covered under the CARES act. The positive test must be official, no home test. The employer still pays the persons salary and the govt reimburses them.

The rules look like they keep changing since I used it. You can read it here…
