I couldn't get my oil burner out of my house fast enough. Lets see, the stench, the black dust, the price fluctuations, the disgusting maintenance...need I go on? Good riddance. Love my quiet as a mouse, tiny and efficient GAS powered Mod-Con. been 4 years, and now have broke even on the cost for upgrade.

Lots of homeowners felt that way when they got rid of coal for natural gas as well.

People get all romantic about burning coal in a furnace or boiler, ask those who lived with the stuff and you'll hear a different story.

Exaggerate much? A properly maintained system will have none of the service issues you describe. If you smell "stench", you do not have a properly maintained oil system, that's for sure. "Disgusting maintenance", what does that even mean?

What? You don't think natural gas prices will be affected by current world situation either?

Read on and learn something...

All commodities derived from oil, natural gas and so forth are priced and traded on world markets. It doesn't matter if oil comes from Middle East or United States, neither if natural gas from USA or Russia, it all is traded on markets and thus subject to same forces.

Actually those who use oil and filled up tanks before stuff hit fan, and or have locked in a good rate are quite well positioned. Natural gas users OTHO will be hit quite soon as will all of us for electricity rates as higher prices work their way down.

The nat gas hike is minimal. My last bill compared to 2021. I used 2 more therms and I less day in 2022. Bill was $20 higher. With nat gas once you pass 51ish therms the price drastically drops. The more you sue the cheaper it gets unlike electric.

Yes, of course. Basic economics. You brought in NG, I was (humorously) referring to oil.

Oil heats the house better than gas, my neighbor has gas and I'm always freezing over there, he always has a heavy sweater on. Oil doesn't explode.

Well, technically it can. Just usually you don't have enough quantity to make a good big one. The negative is that it's expensive. Your neighbor's home being freezing is unlikely to be specific to him using gas as gas can keep a place nice and cozy pretty easily.

Now if you want to both minimize costs and explode-y-ness, then heat pumps are probably the best bet.
