Would they claim "hurricane" if a tree falls on the house if weather report even mentions possibility of "hurricane"? I always worry about those technicalities. I will definitely ask about increasing the personal liability. Thanks for the suggestion!

No. Read your policy for their exact coverages (or you can check
here for a long list of insurance companies in New York and the hurricane policies for each). Hurricane damage is most commonly defined as damaged caused within 12 hours before or 12 hours after a hurricane makes landfall, with hurricane being defined as by the National Weather Service. Although some have a 24 hour period instead of 12, and some start hurricane deductibles at a category 2 hurricane instead of a category 1, although in pretty much all cases the storm has to be declared a hurricane by the NWS.
