This mangano was no angel but 12 years is over the top

I agree with you on the Police Chief sentence. In the Mangano case, Prosecutors were actually seeking 17.5 years and the Sentencing guidelines for the fraud, wire fraud and corruption charges was up to 30 years.

Mangano helped Long Island businessman Harendra Singh obtain guaranteed loans in exchange for lavish gifts, including a $7,000 watch for Mangano's son, a $3,600 massage chair, and a $450,000-a-year, no-show job for his wife at one of Singh's restaurants.
Is $10,000 in gifts worthy of a 12 year sentence? They were actually friends so it’s not like a direct payoff. Is there any evidence that the so-called no-show job was discussed before the loan guarantees were made and that it was a condition of getting the loans? Campaign donors regularly contribute to politicians and then get rewarded with huge contracts or receive other financial benefits. Is that less corrupt or just more acceptable?
