Not that worried, I have had 25 years of savings with gas. If I loose a little for the next few years that is just how it works sometimes

This is a good resource-
https://www.codfuel.com/fuel/marketi...-fuel-oil.aspx
It breaks down the price by gallons you want or expect to receive in a fill up.

Oil has been cheaper than gas for maybe 5 -14 months in the last 10 years.

10 therms is 7.2 gallons of oil. Oil burns hotter gas burners have higher efficiency we will call it a wash.

Gas the more you use the cheaper it gets in winter it’s about t$1.30 therm with taxes fees etc.
10 therms = $13
7 gallons oil needs to be under $2 to be cheaper.

Plus if you have oil you have a electric or propane stove that increases costs of those utilities.

I nearly had a nervous breakdown the last time oil skyrocketed…’08? Maybe ‘09? Whatever it was.
I was paying off that winters fuel bill for over a year on top of the next winter bills. Man was I disgusted with life. My current home I heat with wood. Nothing else. I have an endless supply of it so my heating bills are zero dollars. I have a few years worth of wood split and stacked so I’m good for a while. When I get half way thru what I have I’ll start cutting and splitting more, but I’d say that’s at least 2 years from now.
If I were paying for oil now you’d definitely find me hanging from a tree somewhere.

How much is it to get the wood burning stove installed? I'm interested.

It really varies. Just like any heating system you need to know what size you need to match your heating needs.
The layout of the house also factors in. I’d say a few grand installed. A stove can be anywhere from just under a grand and up to a few grand, depending on brand/features/output. Then you need the piping installed as well.
You can always find a decent used stove online too.
It’s definitely cheaper than any other heating system to install.

I wonder how that affects your homeowners insurance. Could be considered more of a fire hazard and increase the premium
