im looking at my tax receipt for 7/1/07 - 6/30/08 and see i have no star exemption. i thought i applied a couple of years ago.
is this a program that you need to apply for each year?
also, it checked the assessor website and see i missed the cut off for this year but dont see a link to apply for next year...is there a STAR program for next year?
i hate taxes...i even hate their website

I applied for STAR by visiting the STAR office at the Brookhaven offices. The application is online but I am pretty sure you need to take it in personally. The form is RP-425 (http://www.orps.state.ny.us/ref/forms/pdf_fillin/rp425_fillin.pdf (broken link))

I thin kthey need proof of residency (like a deed). but the good news is you have LOTS of time for the nest deadline!!

You do not have to apply every year as far as I know. I did not go to the Babylon offices with a deed, I am pretty sure.

Default star program

If you paid mortgage in full will you be able to use star program toward the yearly taxes?

Your mortgage has nothing to do with your taxes.

In Huntington town, you do not need to reapply for BASIC STAR. However, I believe those over 65 must reapply each year for the EXTENDED STAR

Correct, Basic STAR requires only the initial application.

If you are eligible for Enhanced STAR, which is only for Seniors 65 and over AND has income limitations, you have the option of

a) re-applying each year with proof of income (copy of NYS tax return) or
b) by authorizing release of the information from the NYS Income Tax Dept. on a recurring basis so the income eligibility can be verified.
