I do not think most people are aware of how beautiful and pristine the lands of EPCAL, and Calverton, are. Riverhead continues to push the Riverhead Resorts plan which will devastate the area. Riverhead is even breaking the law by bribing judges to bar Pine Barrens Commision oversight, which is clearly ILLEGAL, as any project done in the pine barrens has to go before the Commision. And I believe that EPCAL lies within the CORE PRESERVATION AREA which means little to no development is allowed.
The oils from pavement runoff and vehicles will contaminate the Peconic River, as the headwaters are only a mile or two away from the site.
The narrow two lane roads will not be able to handle the traffic, and will be bumper to bumper.
The EPCAL site itself has become pine barrens and grasslands, and in the photos you see below is land that is slated to be bulldozed, if Riverhead Resorts is allowed.
Riverhead Resorts plans a "Wilderness Resort". Thats what really gets me steamed. There's already a wilderness resort, it's called the PINE BARRENS! And unlike RR's plan, it doesn't cost anything to visit.
The Golf Course also should be interested in stopping Riverhead Resorts. Imagine all the noise and garbage golfers will have to put up with!
Alot of folks will view this post and do nothing. I hope they realize that their voice is crucial to stopping this thing. This is the biggest construction threat to the pine barrens ever. People need to make Riverhead Town's ears bleed!
Perhaps we can persuade the state to come in and purchase EPCAL and turn it into a state park. As far as the runway areas, perhaps a wind farm would be a great idea, windiest place on LI, could wind up saving the air and our wallets with less oil being burned. So start writing the Governor. I know I am busy writing letters and making phone calls but I need your help. SO GET INVOLVED! longislandpinebarrens :: Index

Here's a link that might be helpful in making it easier for people to contact the Gov. and make it known where they stand: Governor David A. Paterson Bio
build the Raceway its pefect you could build the track and still have that Country Feel. 33.000 acres around it will buffer the noise it will bring Money To the area and create jobs it and if it has 40.000 Seats x15-20$ a pop i think that will kill the ski sloop in tearms of Profit in 5 years the track will pay itself off It will Also Stop Street Racing witch Happens alot so it will Save Lives also who the heck is going to come to downState NewYork to ski when upstate has a heck of a lot more Land I myself have been a race fan all my life but in order to have the racing you Need the
Woods so I Also love the Pine Barrens plus if i lived by the barrens i think i"d enjoy Hicking
the Noise has always been and Issue but with this much land i can"t see it being a problom i can"t stand the development here i feel for the FARMS and stuff. steve leavy thinks devlopment is a good thing how is it good when you have 30-40 ILLEGALS IN 1 House? The ski slop wont even be that great even if it is built because the town keeps cutting the Height of it if you don:t belive me that this will work look at any raceway in New Jersey Oswego.Ny and see 20:000 pepole in the stands you will see
Yes, don't build resorts, race tracks, casinos, stadiums, arenas. Just build cookie cutter housing developments, factory outlets and strip malls. We can always go to Connecticut and New Jersey to spend our entertainment money. Why keep it here, creating jobs and opportunity? Inaccessible pine barrens are so much nicer. It's such great fun to bring the family to visit the pine barrens. Maybe we can compromise and do some rational, sustainable development that includes frivilous (i.e FUN) ideas that keep money, jobs and people here. Nahh, this is Long Island. Change is bad. NIMBY baby, NIMBY!!
The best use of this land is an amusement park. Just look at great adventure. Half their land they cant build on and the rest is built nicely around the trees and the lakes.
It will generate jobs and keep the land in great condition . I also think a small green community would be good also. some kind of new design which includes housing and jobs in one area.
both of these would be better alternatives then a huge mega resort.
