Actually if you are the first car or a few back at the gates of course you can see through the windows and see how many people there are......and in my area its at best 30-40%.

Though, i live near a small local stop and not a main hub like Hicksville or Ronkonkoma or Babylon so maybe it's diff.

I don't think that Long Island became so dangerous. Its more that riding the trains have become more dangerous

So this is not your typical drunks! Officers will board trains at opposite ends of a station platform, and then work their way to the middle of a train, along the way having “a lot of interaction with riders,” Canine and special operations personnel will also be used! I mean, I dont take the train, it seems like only those in the lower echelons of life ride that, and for the cops to bring the dogs out, who knows what else really goes on. Do you want to have an "interaction" with a cop at 5 AM in the morning? I dont https://www.newsday.com/long-island/...crime-iinhqf7q
Lower echelons of life ? Really? I will remeber that when riding on the train to go to a Rangers game or to see a show. Come on.

Yup. Hicksville station was packed with considerable foot traffic up to 1/2 mile away on weekdays.

Parking lots have been relatively empty and barely any foot traffic whatsoever since the lockdowns. People just never went back to riding it.

Plus many white collar workers who did commute moved off the Island when jobs went remote.

I'd conservatively estimate our LIRR train station parking lot is at 66% capacity. It was 100% in 2019.

The parking lots along the Long Beach, Babylon, and Far Rockaway lines seem very crowded to me during the weekdays. There's no more empty spaces like there were a year ago.

live in Hicksville, pass the station every day. Totally agree. No one is riding. While it may have increased somewhat from height of the pandemic (which was ZERO ridership), it's no where near what it used to be. Too much crime. That being said, it's all traffic, all the time on the roadways. No more "rush hour".

Speaking of trains and crime, what’s up with the rise in platform murders?
Seems like every week someone is pushed in front of a train in the city.
