I've found most of the people who live and work in NYC to be very polite and friendly, and certainly have alot more class than many Nasty county residents. The tourists though can be rude, I was on the S.I. Ferry a couple of weekends ago and they were shoving me when the gate opened.
The friendlier parts of LI are out in Suffolk. If places like Ridge, Sayville, and Kings Park are an 8 on the "courtesy scale" then East Hills, Roslyn are a 2.
And Westbury aint great either, a couple of years ago I stepped over a manhole cover at Post+Maple and it gave way and I fell in, no one stopped to help, not even a passing NCPD car, I had to get myself out on my own. Luckily I was only in as far as my waist. It aint called Nasty county for nothin'.

Whenever I've gone on vacation somewhere else in the country....I always come back home with the realization that the nicest people in the country are right here at home. And I mean that.

Liberty Island is not Long Island and the tourists there are representative of people from all over -- places like San Antonio, CA, UK, Japan, etc. Chances are if there were any LIers on that line, they were school children who are younger than you.

It's likely that you (15 years old) and your cousins in your attempt to 'find' your mother, probably looked like you were trying to cut the line. (Anyone who has gone to Six Flags has seen packs of teens jump the line, you might have looked like textbook jumpers.) I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you actually were trying to locate your mom, but think that you might be omitting a detail to make you sound more sympathetic to the readers. In this day and age, everyone has cell phones. I find it hard to fathom that a teenage boy does not have a cell phone and that his mother and cousins were lacking one, too. Even at WDW families use 2-ways.

In my experience, the most rude people I've had to deal with were foreigners and southerners while at Disney World. They bump you, crowd you on line, and then look at you as though you are horrible when you ask them to give you a little room.

Looking over your previous posts, you tend to emphasis negativity and divisiveness. Please answer me honestly: given that you aren't completely familiar with the geography of NY & LI, what purpose did your post really serve other than to attempt to inflame LIers?

I agree with Bee...the nastiest place is in DisneyWorld (that's why we go off-season, even if we take the kids out of school). Down with the mouse!

Heres the problem: a vast majority of people from long island probably were born or came from NY city originally, so a long island accent--- doubt it. Like someone else already said, the people visiting the statue usually are tourists like yourself. People from long island and the city are RARELY going to visit a tourist trap where they have to wait on long lines and overpay for some souvenirs (no offense). People do get irritable but they could have been from Jersey,Conn.,or PA which from alot of areas is closer then long island. Be careful pointing the finger unless you know for sure. The next person might say you're from Arkansas, or Kentucky.

There are mean people everywhere, and as others have said tourists can often be stressed out because they're in a new place trying to get everything in before going home. I think that many people enjoy being outraged and enjoy complaining. Its best to just let those kind of incidents go.

Huh?! We don't say nothing, really. We'd just shove you out of the way and declare its OUR statue then probably kick your butt! (just kidding, I think) Honestly, a New Yorker is a lot more direct. Now I do not know where you are from but how can you distinguish between a Jersey and Massachusetts and Long Island and or NYC accent? I won't add any of the other eastern seaboard states where we are Yankees and have accents. I'm just trying to figure out what grown adult would use the phrase 'skip us' and I do not reckon they are from these here parts or neck of the woods. Reality is.. when you are a tourist whether at a small attraction and or a large there is always going to be 'one' who simply is inpatient and rude.
