Anyone know the best time of year to go to see ducks? I want to take my daughter to see them. I'd rather not drive all the way to Roslyn if there won't be any ducks. Hopefully someone can let me know.

I have pictures dated April 1958 of me at the Duck Pond. Since I'm all dolled-up, I assume it is Easter Sunday.

Lots of ducks.......

Easter 1958 was April 6.

I just got some old pictures of me at the Roslyn Duck Pond from about 1967. I am about 2 and wearing a pink coat and bonnet so I think mine are Easter pictures too.

If I wanted to feed the ducks with my daughter, but I didn't want to feed them bread or anything that was bad for them, what would I feed them? Does anyone know? I guess we don't have to feed them.

You're probably better off not feeding them at all. It's not just the fact that lots of bread, etc., is bad for them, but that it makes them more dependent on/trusting of humans.

I'm sure your daughter will enjoy just watching them! They are very cute.

Don't know where you live, but the Stony Brook Duck Pond offers ducks, geese and swans at any time.
Great to walk around, visit teh Grist Mill from the 1700s and in the nearby Avalon park.

If you are looking specifically for the new-born ducklings - last year I took the attached picture on April 28th, so end of April is best.

The geese and some ducks are notorious for ruling the road (Main Street) in Stony Brook, and is kind of fun watching cars stop and wait for them to cross. They often start crossing, then hesitate, go half-way, change their minds, go back and forth... Some drivers lose patience. For me is entertaining - it's like unexpected meditation moment - being forced to stop and "smell the roses" or "let the geese cross the street" moment of a slower-pace life.
Not fun if I am driving to the airport or the train .

Lots of fond memories of the duck pond. My first date with my wife was there. Since we are now married going on 32 years it must have been a good selection.

Those geese in Stony Brook have always been mean cussers. I try to stay away from them. i think they bite for just the fun of it.

They don't hold a candle to the Geese in Roslyn, trust me, I've experienced both. When the goslings hatch in Roslyn, they come right up to you and almost walk over your feet, then their parents attack you because you're a threat. Eating lunch in that park, you have to chase the geese away..they'll come right up to you and start hissing like you owe them something.

Hechscher Park in Huntington used to have food available for the ducks.
