Hi everyone, after a long and laborious house search, we have finally decided to buy a house in Williston Park.

Currently, we are shopping for a mortgage broker to assist us in securing a home mortgage loan.

Has anyone dealt with Don Romano from the Shelter Rock Mortgage Corp. located in Lake Success/ New Hyde Park area? He is a member of the Upfront Mortgage Brokers Association, which is a group of brokers who charge an upfront fee, rather than a yield spread premium. Members of this brokers association also promise to offer their clients the banks' wholesale mortgage rate.

If you have utilized the services of Shelter Rock Mortgage Corp in the past, please share your experience. Thanks!

I've never used them, but I would get a good faith estimate from them and then shop around. That's the only way you'll know they aren't ripping you off. I would also try going to a mortgage banker instead of a broker.

Why pay anything if you are only obtaining a relatively basic mortgage? Just call the banks and lending institutions yourself. It was my understanding that ANYTHING paid upfront was foolish and not necessary. Not sure why you should bare any of the costs aside from the standard mortgage stuff. Would this be your first mortgage I assume?
