Sorry if this has been asked already, but I tried to do a search and couldn't come up with anything. I'm looking to purchase a home, preferably in Garden City, with a budget of around 1.5m, give or take a little. Other options would be Manhasset or Great Neck, but I'm mostly concerned with finding a nice 4-5br home in a very nice area. I've been doing some real estate searches online for these areas and frankly I seem to find only subpar homes in the 1.5m range. I'm not really sure what to expect going to a real estate agent in person, but the quality of housing for my price range seems to be pretty low. Am I not getting the whole picture through the internet? Also, if anybody could recommend a real estate agent that familiarizes with the area it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Well, 1.5 will not get you a 4-5 bedroom in those communities. I can give you some names of agents in GC and Manhasset.
1.5 is alot of money, you will need to decide what is more important, the size and quality of the home or the town you want to live in. There are plenty of good towns that you can spend 1.5 and have an awesome home but they still will not but in the same "league" as GC or Manhasset. Good luck!

We just purchased a ranch home in GC that we plan to rebuild. We looked a long time in that 1.5 - 2.0 range for a 5 bedroom in Manhasset and GC and just weren't seeing what we wanted. One fantastic deal on a 5-6 bedroom sold within 48 hours for 1.4. I'd keep looking. Some of those 1.7 prices will sell for much less. I see price drops of 100K or more all the time. Recently saw a price drop 2.699 to 1.799 (in Scarsdale though)!
