Any impressions of the place would be appreciated.

Would you send your kid there?

The Bellport school district appears to have a fairly low number of kids that pass the exams.
You can get further info on the schools at these websites:

I wouldn't say it's the teachers' fault though. I can't think of many districts full of minorities that don't have bad numbers.

Unfortuately, it's hard to evaluate a school district that you don't attend in any other way except the test scores. I realize that wealthier school districts will score better because they are high income areas with kids that grow up preparing for college.

I'd look elsewhere. My cousin went there during the 80's and he ended up in the hospital due to racial violence.

I'd pass on Bellport if possible- test scores are very low, which can be an indication of student performance, but also from personal experiece, I haven't heard anything positive about it. My younger cousin just graduated from the high school two years ago, and the stories she shares... yoikes. Sounds like overall, a good amount of gang issues/drugs, etc. Yes, almost all high schools have at least a little bit of struggle with such things, but seems like Bellport's got more than its fair share.

Its a tale of 2 towns.

North Bellport is like Roosevelt
Bellport Village is like The Hamptons.

Its fairly common on Long Island to have abject poverty shouldered by extreme wealth.
(See Garden City/Hempstead Brightwaters/Bay Shore Dix Hills/Wyandanch)

Its just rare that they share the same district.

Bellport Village is stunning.

Chances are if you can afford to be south of 27 you can afford to send your kid to private school.

The real nice part of Bellport is south of Head of the Neck. Between Montauk and Head of the Neck is somewhat icky, and between Sunrise and Montauk is the aforementioned really bad part. North of Sunrise is pretty much middle-class.
