New to the area and having some old friends in from out of town. I'm looking for a local spot to have dinner near the water on the south shore. Preferebly in the Freeport-Bayshore stretch of coast. (Closer to Babylon Village the better.)
Nothing pretentious please. Somewhere the locals go. Good oysters, friendly if not a bit salty atmosphere. Shot and a beer for 5 bucks, the bartender pours by eye instead of measuring. That type of place.
A shot and a beer for 5 bucks - good luck finding that...
For outside seating and seafood - maybe try Fat Fish in Bayshore. I think they fixed it up a few years back - so it may be a little nicer than you are looking for.
For the oysters, Southside in Lindenhurst. It's cafeteria style. You clean your own tables. I'm not sure if you'll get your shot, but they have a separate bar inside where you get your beer in a plastic cup.
I second southside the clams and oysters are served at the bar!it's a hole but no doubt the best seafood, no sit down bar you get your meals, drink, ect and find your dirty picnic table and a bib.Freeport i'm sure you will find something WITH a sit down bar and the good seafood?
