And that's unique to liberals? I think that's a bit of a broad brush, there. People all over want to be near people who are "like them".
LI Republicans were never really conservative. The GOP gave Nassau its high taxes and its system was not based on ideology but patronage and power.
If anything Suffolk's Govt (which is run by the Dems) is more Conservative than Nassau's. Nassau is always trying to come up with money grabs like the School Zone Speed Cams. Spending & Patronage are out of control. Classic examples of this are the removal of trees along S.Oyster Bay road which cost Millions with a contract awarded to a Mangano friend.
Then there's "NICE" which keeps costing the County more while the bus system continues to degrade.
Not saying Suffolk is perfect but it's a much better run County. Nassau is as corrupt as they come.
And Conservatives generally believe in a strong Police force yet the Nassau GOP was responsible for the biggest cuts in Nassau PD history. They have the same manpower they have now as they did in the 50s!
Mangano says crime is at record lows but he lies. After all he said "NICE Bus" is a successful "public-private partnership" that saves the County money while preserving reliable service commuters can depend on! If anyone has been on NICE you'd know it's far from reliable and is much worse than the MTA LI Bus system it replaced, there's less service on the road period. It wasn't preserved!
And the County's debt keeps growing. If Mangano gets re-elected than people in Nassau truly are idiots and get what they deserve. Hopefully the Dems put someone other than Suozzi against him this time around, since they virtually handed Mangano the election last time.

I can attest to how corrupt and unfair Nassau is. As an example, I fought and won several parking tickets that I got. One would think that if you win, you don't have to pay anything. Not in Nassau, because even if you win, there still is a $10 administrative fee.
The Three Village area (Stony Brook, Setauket, Old Field) leans Democratic. Some folks said it is very liberal -- perhaps at the University (11794) There are non U liberals here as well, but there aren't as many extreme liberals as you see on campus.
Long Island is perverted liberalism. Everyone on Long Island thinks they are progressive, but God forbid a black couple moves in next door, or a gay couple walks through the mall holding hands. Hypocrisy is a major characteristic of perverted liberalism. Growing up on Long Island, you wouldnt believe some of the racist things I heard behind closed doors at all white dinner parties. Many of these same people then turn around, shop at Trader Joe's, and act all progressive. Fake, fake, fake.
