I am not familiar with the Setauket area, but going to look at some houses in Setauket within the next week or so. Are there sections to avoid? Difference between South Setauket and East Setauket?Sections to zone in on? Any help on this would be appreciated. Tahnks.

There are no really terrible areas of Setauket . Some of them are beautiful like Old Field , Poquott and Strongs Neck . Any areas near the village itself are lovely with older homes . Most of these are north of Route 25 A . Your choices would depend upon your budget.

South (and East) Setauket have some very small homes that are close to the high school off Old Town Road and while these would not be considered elegant, they are relatively good values for the money because they are in the Three Village school district. Good luck with your search!

No they are sections of Setauket and East Setauket
(and you wont find much there in the starter market)

There is no such thing as South Setauket.
It was just a RE marketing ploy to sell Centerach homes in the 3VSD.

Heres a old thread on other Imaginary Towns

If it were me..Id go with Stony Brook.

Where is the best place in that general area to look for a 3 BR starter home? (300-350 range)

The area off old town rd. north of 347 on the west side (arrowhead rd.) is considered e.setauket and could be a good area for that price range also after norwood rd(just north of it) on the right has a few streets there but that is the dividing line between e.setauket and port jeff station. The old field, poquott areas are north of 25A and are a little higher priced because of your proximity(closer) to the water. The advantage to e.setauket as previously stated by a few people is the better school district.
