Roosevelt is bad because of crime and poverty, period. The school system is the worst in New York State and is filled with corruption. It is also surrounded by bad neighborhoods (Uniondale, [North] Freeport, North Baldwin etc.)

Why is it bad?

Maybe it has to do with the famous disk jockey (Stern Something?) that told everyone how he was the only white kid and he was tortured there. JK but that definitely gave the 'Velt their 15 minutes.
Crime, poverty, bad schools. Although I have seen scarier areas than this in parts of Jersy & PA. Careful what exits you pull off at to get gas there.

The people that live in Roosevelt should be ashamed of themselves. As if it takes money to put garbage in the trashcan and not let it spew all over the street. I was in the Peacecorps and worked in some of the most impoverished areas in the world, predominently in South America..and let me tell you, those people didnt have govt checks or assistance and they were cleaner and had more pride than anything ive seen here in the US. The fattest demographic in this country is the lower income bracket.

roosevelt is not a bad place at all... The roosevelt school district is bad because its outdate... Teh board is outdated. The technology within is outdated. What we need is a stronger community voice... WE are on the rise right now... I would say this to anyone who wants to buy a home in Roosevelt: WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO BUY HOMES AND BECOME A VOICE TO BE HEARD!!! 30 people come to look at homes... 30 people buy... 30 people care about where they live.... a difference has just been made... I graduated from Roosevelt High in 1995 and our board meetings used to be 100 parents strong... now, you would be lucky if 5 parents are present...

It's not the color of the residents' skin. It's the low income status and all the baggage that ensues that makes Roosevelt bad.

For those of you who say Roosevelt isn't that bad, I dare you to walk there at night alone.
