We just put an offer on a house in Ronkonkoma and it was accepted. It is located north of vets right east of Connetquot park. South of the tracks. The area really likes nice, nicer then any other park of Ronkonkoma that I have seen. What do you guys think of the area, thanks.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Ronkonkoma

Mazel tov!

Ronkonkoma can be a very confusing community as the majority of the places that have a "Ronkonkoma, NY 11779" mailing address are not in Ronkonkoma.

For those who may not be familiar with Ronkonkoma:

Ronkonkoma is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northeast part of the Town of Islip, in the west part of Suffolk County, along the Islip/Smithtown and the Islip/Brookhaven town lines.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Ronkonkoma in the Town of Islip is bordered on the north by Lake Ronkonkoma, the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma in the Towns of Smithtown and Brookhaven (the Islip/Smithtown and the Islip/Brookhaven town lines); on the east by the Hamlet of Holbrook; on the south by the Hamlet of Bohemia; and, on the west by the Village of the Islandia and the Hamlet of Hauppauge.

Ronkonkoma is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of the places with the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the hamlet: places that have a "Ronkonkoma, NY 11779" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Ronkonkoma are in the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma in the Towns of Smithtown and Brookhaven and in the Hamlet of Bohemia; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Ronkonkoma with a "Central Islip, NY 11722" and a "Holbrook, NY 11741" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): //www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Walter doesn't let his opinions be known unless you ask him about a town's boundary

Ronkonkoma is working middle class. I've lived there for the last 7 years. Most people are decent and respectful.

We just "Ronkonkoma" day on Saturday. It was nice..a few too many meatheads with pitbulls, though.

My last post was rushed.

Ronkonkoma is a fine area. I think that Connetquot schools are slightly better than Sachem, and it looks like that's where you would be living. My only issue with that area is that it isn't very close to any "downtown" area, but you can't have everything.

A fisherman from my friend's club was mugged by some mutts up in Connetquot up at the north end towards Vets. That was a couple of years ago, but since then he said club members have been more wary about fishing up that end alone.

I lived in Oakdale for nearly ten years. My son graduated from Connetquot high school. The schools are good, average amount of drugs & gang activity for Li as far as I could tell. We looked at homes in Ronkonkoma before we decided to move further east. The kids from Oakdale often refered to Ronkonkoma as "Ron-Compton" but I think that was exagerated.
