I am considering buying either an inground pool or a semi-inground pool. Does anyone know how much each one would increase my taxes in town of oyster bay? Also, does anyone know what the cost is to put in each, with pavers around for inground, or decking around semi? The entire cost from soup to nuts for each.

I don't think there is any difference taxwise between an inground and semi-inground in most towns. By semi-inground do you mean just an above-ground pool (such as you can buy at places like Harrows) that happens to be sitting in a large excavated area? Or a true inground pool that has a berm of earth and a deck around it so that the actual top of the pool is above grade? I've seen both kinds of installations in people's yards.

Your best bet is probably to ask the town's building dept what their definition of "semi-inground" is; it probably is based on how many inches it is above or below the ground level of the rest of the yard, and maybe on the size of the pool as well.

We were originally looking at houses without an existing pool but after hearing that nowadays it costs $30,000 or more to install an inground pool "soup to nuts", we're now looking only at houses that already have the pool there. A plus is that it's already factored into the taxes (as long as they sellers do have a CO!). We hated the look of the semi-ingrounds that were essentially above-ground pools set into a hole.

I believe taxes go up about $1000 a year, not much more from what I have been told.
