Has anyone gone through one of these ? I have always wanted to do this and a friend has agreed to go with me. Would two retired teachers be very out of place & among only kids ? Would we probably get totally lost?

Yes, you'll get lost...just follow the smallest child out! Yes, you'll have fun, and I agree...go! Let me know how it is, as we will be in LI for Halloween, and I'd love to take my kids!

If you take the expressway to the end (east) and continue on to route 25 you eventually come to Harbes which has the corn maze, live music, roasted corn, and lemonade. It's around the mattituck area or just before. It usually starts in october through late november (also pumpkin picking). Also in wading river you have Darkside (haunted house) but it's for a limited time and I seem to miss it every year. The north fork is great-- alot to do and a beautiful area and also close to the Tanger outlets.

My husband and I run a full haunt walkthrough in our back yard and we get folks of all ages going through. They all enjoy it.

I went to Harbes last year and it was fun. This year we went to Hanks on the South Fork (right next to Duckwalk Vineyard) and that was great as well as cheaper. It had three mazes of varying lengths, a huge play area with activities for the kids, pumpkin picking, roasted corn, candy apples, etc. The admission for the maze and all other activities was $9/per person. My favorite was the fortune telling maze. You found different colored chalk stations throughout the maze, colored each of the fingers on your right hand. At the end of the maze you found out your fortune based on which combination you chose. The kids (which I borrowed) loved it.

There's also something going on in Bayville related to Halloween - a scream park possibly??? Not sure, but know it exists. Maybe something to check out. Could be totally awful though. Perhaps there's a write-up in Newsday about it.
