If you have children then Mt. Sinai and Stony Brook have much better schools.

I wouldn't buy there. It's ok, nothing spectacular. Some of the other side streets get heavier traffic as they are cut throughs between 25A and 347. The end of the LIRR line is right there just north of 25A. I believe they've put up barriers to help block some of the idling diesel noise. There are a fair number of rentals in the area. If I were going to move to Port Jefferson, this wouldn't be my choice of locale.

What's your budget?

ok......thanks! i didn't think that it was the greatest spot in port jeff station, but i wanted to ask....:-) There are a few other houses in port jeff station that we like also that are in better areas.
We live in yaphank now, and are trying to move west. we don't want to look at any houses east of miller place. Pretty much sticking to
Centereach, Selden, Ronkonkoma, Lake Ronkonkoma, Lake Grove,
S.Setauket, Port Jeff Station, Holbrook, Setauket, possibly Patchogue, coram, mt. sinai, miller place.

Good Luck! Mt. Sinai is literally 2 blocks from where you were looking in PJ Station. If schools are important then 3V (Setauket), Mt. Sinai and Miller Place are nice. The rest -not so much.

If you're on a budget and want 3V, you might want to look into the critter section in Setauket (Old Town Rd north and east of Ward Melville HS) The streets have names like Beaver, Possum, Lynx, Bunny, Badger....

Also, Ringneck , Grouse, Pheasant.... it's the 3Village schools, close to eveything and really very well-priced.
