I worked at a Division I university that didn't have $2.5 million dollar grass.
As this economy turns southward and people are suffering with credit tightness and foreclosures, I find it insulting that the Northport/East Northport school board would as TWICE to fund this measures, the second time only reducing it by a meager $800,000 (the total comes to nearly $9 million!).
If you aren't planning to come out to vote, you should.
I implore you to vote against this.

Yes, this is the latest creative way the school districts want to spend our money - new athletic fields , new bleachers, professional scoreboards, workout rooms, dance studios. Give me a break !!! It seems like they are in competition with each other.
My high school (graduating class size: 1035) got one universal gym machine when I was a junior. It sat on the perimeter of the smelly gym. My current district has a workout room that puts most health clubs to shame. Just spent over 1 mil on new synthetic turf (I read somewhere that people are worried that some types may be carcinogenic) and new metal bleachers (the old ones worked just fine). I don't understand any of this.

It would pay for installation of synthetic turf fields, which the district says would be safe, along with new running tracks, bleachers, a press box and concession stand; and updating irrigation, drainage, lighting and fencing systems. The bond would also fund new goal posts, high- and long-jump event areas, a batting cage and pole vault event area.
Please vote NO and spread the word.

I can't see how this is reasonable with the current financial situation. I'm the last person to jump on the "vote the budget down" chorus, but in this case, it doesn't make sense to spend this kind of coin.

Once the new facilities go in - the school districts put up fences that they lock or hire security firms to patrol the grounds and kick people off the property. So the local residents that are paying the high school taxes aren't even able to utilize the track or tennis courts.

LOL! They've got to be joking. This would seem to imply that normal everyday old GRASS isn't safe enough for these little darlings to be playing their JV lacrosse on? How did all of us old farts ever get this far in life having to deal with the oppressive horrors of cleat divots and grass stains?

I think the point of them saying it was safe is that there is some concern that the new "field turf" artificial surface may may not be safe, not that grass is inherently unsafe.
There are all kinds of recycled products in field turf.

You poor pathetic souls. If $55 a year is breaking you, then I do feel bad for you. These fields haven't been updated in about 30 years. God forbid our kids and grandkids have new fields at there schools! Oh, right, you don't have kids or grandkids playing any sports, so screw it. Outrageous!! $5 per month is too much? Wow, but a bunch of losers we have in our town!!
