what is new building going up on 5 corners and Hawkins Avenue going to be?
The parks are nice around the lake and everytime I drive by, the parking lots are full, and also Raynor Beach park is very lovely, but what is that big building going to be on the corner of Hawkins Avenue and Smith Road at five corners going to be??

Reason: misspelling

I have been wondering the same thing but have not yet called the village to find out. I am a bit upset by it as it seems really large and out of character for the area. There doesn't seem to have been much progress on it lately. This used to be a deli for many years and it's been vacant for quite a while.
Ha yes, the infamously bad "Das Little Haus" deli that all the Sachem kids used to walk to.
Heaven forbid, but it looks like it could be yet ANOTHER chain pharmacy there. The single most homogenizing element in suburbia...they look exactly the same in Florida, California, New York....doesn't matter.
I remember the old couple back from 1971 to 1978 or so who owned the 5 corners deli, they were very nice. Most of you might not know this but the old 5 corners deli was actualy a school house for that area...
Lake Ronkonkoma used to be a very busy place. City people would come out there by train to cool off during the summer. 1920's & 1930's I think (I wasn't around then). George Burns started his entertainment career in Lake Ronkonkoma <===== little known fact! It was way before he met Gracie Allen, I think it was an act with a skating or dancing dog.
Well, looks like they are quickly working on the building now. The other building was too large, we were told this by quite a few people and the owners (who was supposedly Starbucks ) was not happy and neither was the town. It is supposed to be a coffee shoppe, and now looks alot like the church across the street. It looks much better whatever it is!

I agree, the original building was HUGE! Looks better now. Are you saying that the village approved it and then shifted gears based on resident compliants? If yes, I am surprised they were legally allowed to do that, if the village already approved the plans and the building owners already spent money putting the structure up.
The steel framing that was in place for the original structure also looked like it was out of square.
I wonder whether the builder strayed from the plans, if something had been added which wasn't on the plans, or if there was something substandard in the construction?
The new building does look much more in scale with it's environment.

Well you know we do need more Walgreens here. There's not enough of them. Only 1 for every 10 miles.
