I got them in New Hyde Park for the first time in 2008, but not in 2009.

They jump high and move fast! I always felt a sense of accomplishment when I want able to kill one of those guys.

Had a camel cricket infestation in my basement this fall - first year living in this home. They are tricky to get rid of once an infestation starts as they reproduce quickly. Glue traps will catch a few of them but will not really sove the problem. I discussed with an exterminator, and they use "pellets" the crickets eat to kill them - you can get them online. Problem is they will still be back next year, and the pellets are poisonous for pets and such - recommended for sealed off areas only.

I found something that killed them and was safe as well. Bought it at ace hardware, it's was call Diatomaceous earth. I put it around the perimetor both on the outside and inside of my house/basement/crawlspace, especially the corners and dark places they hide. It is a white powder and safe for children/pets. It "dries up" the crickets shell when they come in contact with it. If you seal up all your entry points and lay this stuff down in the late summer, I have a feeling you will not have too much of a problem. That's my plan for next year....

I find that the best method to kill them is to spray them with hairspray, disabling their jumping ability. Then step on them.

My mom has them all over the inside of her garage, She uses arrow exterminating but she was also told to use boric acid around the perimeter of her garage inside as well.

Reviving an old thread to see if anyone knows when the best time to call the exterminator on these guys is? We've had them every spring/summer for the past three years. Better to call now before they start or at first sight?

i had them mostly in my basement when I first moved into my house. Glue traps worked for me but it took a couple of years to get the infestation under control. First 2 years, i was catching a lot each month. Now I see about 1 - 2 on each glue trap and now just change the glue traps every 6 months.

Round up some Italian wall lizards and let them loose on your property and the crickets will disappear.
