Hi all...I live in AZ right now, but i'm originally from NY. I am interested in a job in Great Neck NY on Long Island. Can anyone tell me a little about it? Is it safe? Just a little about what it's like? I'd either be relocating by myself for a few months (i'm female) or with another girlfriend. Want to make sure i'm in a good area though...And how do prices compare? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks Again

I went to college from someone from there. It's a VERY rich town with even more expensive real estate. There is almost no crime and the schools are excellent. It is very convient to the city. As for prices, I searched at the cheapest listing on the market is $399,000! I do not know what the rentals will go for, but I can imagine the smallest being about $2000 a month.
Thanks sounds like a nice place. Any nearby locations that are a bit cheaper? I know Long Island isn't cheap in general so maybe it's silly to ask. Thanks ahead for the help!

I'm trying to look, but I'm not really familiar with long island. Try looking at Glen Cove and Roslyn, similiar but more affordable towns on the north shore.
New Hyde Park, Floral Park, Williston Park, Albertson, Mineola, Garden City Park, Herricks, all are very close to Great Neck, but might require the use of a car, and are cheaper than Great Neck. Most of the apartments will be in private homes. Mineola has some higher rise apartment buildings.
very wealthy area, lots of kosher food of every kind. A bit TOO snobby for me. My friend from childhood married & lives there-actually she's lives in the even wealthier "Kings point". She LOVES plastic surgery, her housekeeper & TWO nannies & her porsche SUV. That sums up the town for me. However, its a lovely looking town & VERY convinent to NYC.
I used to live in Long Island. All of the above nearby mentioned areas are very nice but VERY expensive. Even if you could afford to buy anything there, the property taxes will eat you alive. And forget about renting, apts are hard to find and you will be spending close to $2000/month
hi. great neck is desireable because of its proximity to NYC--a commuter's dream with short commute via the many A.M. express trains (LIRR). Expensive, yes, but lots of conveniences. lots of apts too. pricey, and less than ample parking at the apt houses that are less upscale. It's a safe area with lots of culture and many beautiful parks -Stepping Stone is on the sound. There are pools ice skating sailing and many classes offered thru adult ed and the library. Don't know how many singles are around.
look into Little Neck and better yet Bayside (Queens). Same train line as Great neck and more single people (I THINK. Haven't lived on the North Shore in a while)
