OK this is gonna sound a bit weird but yesterday I was in the middle of the woods and heard a low frequency humming sound, it lasted approx 3-5 seconds, stopped for a minute, then started again.
Now I am hearing the same sound here in my home in Westbury. Is it just a coincidence or is something going on we don't know about?
The same thing happened to me about a month ago but in Pa! I swear there was a noise like something running- was on and off and I would stand in the living room and try to figure out the source. I thought maybe the water pump- no- then maybe someone down the road with a leaf blower- no- maybe a truck idling somewhere- no! It was intermittant and when my son came back from LI I asked him if he heard it. Of course, he looked at me like I had 2 heads and said NO! I heard it in bed, I heard it outside, I heard it when it was quiet and when it wasn't! It was making me nuts! I moved back to LI since and I am not near the level of noise I had at my other job and my ears are ok now. But it was as real as someone standing there talking to me. Started thinking I was losing my mind!
Well I'm getting over a cold. I dont think I could get tinnitus as I dont subject myself to loud noise or music. Maybe it's the aircraft?
Possibly the cold. Pressure in/around the ear drum can cause all kinds of issues. Don't quote me on it, not a doctor or anything, but I have worked in health care for over 10 years and have heard of stranger things caused by inner ear problems.
I doubt if it has anything to do with aircraft. You would have to be close to the aircraft on a regular basis (ie: working around them/on the airfield daily) to have any effect on your ears.
I am not imagining the noise, it is still here today so I recorded it using a microphone attached to my PC and applied strong gain. I could clearly see it in the sound graph.
Now the question is to find where it's coming from.
