BonnieandMoose, that would be the Hamlet of East Shoreham, not the Village of Shoreham, right?
For those who may not be familiar with East Shoreham:
East Shoreham is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northeast part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the north-central part of Suffolk County, along the Brookhaven/Riverhead town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of East Shoreham in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by Long Island Sound; on the east by the Hamlet of Wading River in the Town of Riverhead (the Brookhaven/Riverhead town line); on the south by the Hamlet of Ridge; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Rocky Point and the Village of Shoreham.
East Shoreham is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet's name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of East Shoreham have a "Shoreham, NY 11786", "Ridge, NY 11961" and "Wading River 11792" mailing address.

However, according to these maps, the hamlet of Ridge is east along randall rd all the way to 25A and thus it is the western border of East Shoreham, not Rocky Point.

It is actually called the "Village of Shoreham" or Shoreham Village. You can see it at "shorehamvillage.org" It is north of 25A starting at Briarcliff Rd to the east and not sure what the border is on the west. Soundview Acres is just to the east of the village. Both are very woody, hilly, country looking - quite pretty.
Wading River is the beginning of north folk and people there are not crazy about "up Islanders" even if you grew up in Suffolk County. Try Shoreham. It is right next door. People are friendlier because everyone is a transplant and they do not have that "local" mentality that you don't belong. Shoreham has great schools and beaches as well.
Shoreham and Wading River(Brookhaven)are nearly identical and not really known for being friendly.(SWR can be a bit snooty is some spots).
Id say Rocky Point is really your East/West line for NE Brookhaven and would probably be a better choice if youre looking for a warmer sense of community.

people in WR are REALLY friendly, I shop in wading river. People in the king kullen parking lot will fight to GIVE you their parking spot instead of trying to beat you to it. The Mom & Pop business owners are all great to deal with.

I agree.
Wading River(Riverhead) very friendly and still has a lot of country charm.

BonnieandMoose, in terms of area, Shoreham is a very smalll village and is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of the places that have the community name in their mailing address are not in the village.
