Unfortunately though , the lives they save may be their own.

"Loud pipes save lives"

I've never seen those sage words of wisdom posted in any DMV ( or anywhere else , for that matter ).

"Loud pipes save lives"

If this were true , insurance companies would see to it that all vehicles on the road were just as loud.

I remember having to pick up my grandfather there with my dad. He would come in on the LIRR from Manhattan and would end up at the Pub Car. He would be totally drunk and the only reason we knew he was there is because the bar tender would call up and tell my dad to come get him!!!

Wow this is kind of scary to read. My family and I are going tomorrow to look at some houses out in Port Jefferson Station and we have 4 small little boys to raise. We are on a budget on getting a house and just got approved for the loan. Are you guys saying we should not even bother? I really could use some advice. Please give me some facts on the area. I have never been there before.

Go see for yourself, some areas look fine (Terryville) but the schools have really really lost a step over the years.Spend some time in the Pathmark on 112 to get a sense of your neighbors.

If you have the time go check out what you can afford in Miller Place and Rocky Point Schools.

Sound Beach is a hell of a buy.

Best of luck

Give us a street name and we can tell you better. If it's huron, ontario, or around that section I would probably say no though. The area closer to the golf course referred to as the Heatherwood section is MUCH better.

The birchwood section of the station is beautiful. The schools are not that bad. Birchwood has held up well with resale values. Great neighborhood with curbs and sidewalks.

The Riff was being heavily promoted at Stony Brook University when I was there last Tuesday, both on cars in the parking lots. And inside the cafeteria there were glossy postcards all over the place promoting a bar in Stony Brook.

Good point

Theres no curbs and sidewalks in Sound Beach (there are some in Miller Place and Rocky Point...Selden/Centereach too)if youre looking for that.
Just better schools and lower taxes than Comsewogue.
Long Island Schools - Test scores, school programs - Newsday.com

Not sure what happend, maybe due to the large illegal population but the schools have really tanked over the last 20 years.
They used to be ok ..now theyre in the basement.
