Ok Sean Sean Sean Sean.... so thats the story, Hmmm... that means its a real bargain atleast on the housing front. Its good to hear that the area is ok in general. I'll look up the Farmingville thread.

Also many thanks to Elke, that was a good link. Is there a website where I can put the address and it will tell me what school will my kids go ? The house is almost equidistant from 2 schools.... should I call the school district and find out ? Ask the realtor ? Owners ? I am confused....

Hi John,
Whereabouts in Farmingville do you live?
Are you familiar with the area I'm talking about ? Do you (or anyone you know) know more about the area as far as demographics are concerned.... I have heard from a good friend that the area to the east of waverly and west of N.Ocean ave between LIE and horseblock have a high concentration of Hispanics, can you put a demographic on the area that I mentioned on the first post ?

Thanks all for your help.

If something...ANYTHING..."smells" to you, even a whiff, don't discount your instincts and suspicions with "facts".

Go there on the "off peak" hours...evenings, weekends.

The Truth, will "win" out !

By the way, lock your car doors !

You're very welcome!

The best thing to do is call the school(s). They will be able to tell you if the address you have in mind is within their boundaries or not

Besides, sometimes proximity does NOT determine school

I personally think that farmingville has more nice areas than not so nice ones. I live in the neighborhood south of horseblock, in between north ocean and blue point road. This neighborhood does have a good amount of illegals living in it. However, east of north ocean is a pretty nice area. North of horseblock, in between blue point and north ocean can either be nice, or not so nice; it kind of varies block by block. Moving west a bit more, the area directly behind compare foods is another nice part. And west of nichols road is nice too.

Edit: Just realized I didn't answer your question, lol. The area you are talking about, which is Holtsville, seems to be a decent working class area. Holtsvilles demographics are probably something like 85% white, 10% hispanic, and 5% other races, so the neighborhood is most likley similar to those stats.

I'm not all that familiar with Farmingville, but that's the way it seems. Only time I ever really spent out there was at Bald Hill and it looked nice enough. Those school demographics are very telling for most areas, but you never know the whole story until you actually see for yourself. Good luck!

Why are you using quotation marks around words which do not require them? Did you learn how to write English from an illegal immigrant? It's driving me completely freaking nuts.

From what people who live out there have told me, Hispanic undocumented workers and their families are settling down in that general area: Farmingville, Holtsville, Ronkonkoma and Lake Ronkonkoma.

I guess because the area is affordable and is full of small homes or just undesirable homes.

Also, most of those people are probably renters, but as they save money they will probably start buying homes in the area by putting the home in their kids' names.

This thread is what I dont get about Long Island. Even if a town has a slight illegal immigrant problem everyone says stay away, stay away. I mean if we continue to do this to every LI town sooner or later there will be no place to go. And every town that has rentals is vulnerable! If you drive the area and like it & are comfortable with the schools & is within your budget then go for it. Who knows, there may be 200 other non-illegal families that are looking to move there too.

Point taken Roca.... and Sean x4 as you mentioned demographics may not reveal everything, I was basing my opinion on that only, I should drive around a little more and survey the area. But how much can you really see from the outside ? I mean what exactly am I looking for ? The area I saw was pretty decent, nice clean houses with 1-2 cars in front.... I have seen some other areas where you have 2 cars and 2 trucks in front of every house (that might give me a hint ? lots of people living in the house maybe ?).
Thanks John for your insights.... I am comfortable with the demographics you mentioned.... as long as they are close to the actual data. Does anyone know how recent stats are they and where can I find better demographic links outside of MLS ?

Elke, I went to the Sachem Transportation Guide (I was very determined to find out at 1 am yesterday ..lol) and found that the place I had in mind will be under Chippewa as the bus routes pass by that street, but as you adviced me I am going to call the school and find out for sure. Thanks.

nbres.... I am aware of the ares that you are mentioning, but as Roca mentioned you get to see them in every town... some towns have a bigger pocket, some have a smaller one.... if you have specific information about the location I am asking (please refer post 1 of this thread) I'll be more than happy to hear you out.... like you know... we cannnot generalize the entire town of Holtsville can we ?

I am assuming some of your response was meant tongue in cheek.

Farmingville's reputation is way overstated. Having family in the area we see weekly, and attending sporting events at the athletics center on Horseblock with my own children I find the reputational comments to be overblown. Are there many gathering spots for illegals relative to other towns, absolutely yes. Is it ideal to have a 7-11 overrun, absolutely not. But if you attend the schools, go to the sachem league sports programs and attend local community activities you will find that is is predominantly middle class folks, all here quite legally, living in a decent area. Is the situation ideal, of course not...but all the kids from Farmingville also attend the same brand new high school that the gated communities of Holtsville and Somerset communities of Holbrook attend. Go visit the area during all hours and decide for yourself, as the poster recommended. Talk to neighbors, etc.
