Whenever I have buyers unsure about an area in which they like a house, I recommend that they a) drive by at night b) on a weekend c) when school lets out.
Of course it's somewhat more difficult in the Winter - weekends are usually spent indoors, and the snow can cover up poorly maintained grounds - still, it's good to get an overall feeling for an area during different times. JMHO

It's really hard to tell the actual demographics, because illegal aliens aren't going to be included in the census.

This is how I feel about North Babylon. It might be a bit rough around the edges, but it is a solid working/middle class community. It is affordable and I am comfortable with the schools. Despite what others say about the area, I feel it is a good place.

Every place on Long Island is changing in one way or another so what is the point of moving.
