Hi everyone,
I looked up a few houses in holtsville just north of LIE and just east of Nichols road and I couldn't help but wonder why they are at bargain prices ?
This place does not seem to be in farmingville (can someone confirm this for my benefit please), but west of it, seems like its a small pocket between east of Nichols Rd and west of waverly avenue and north of LIE.... the houses seem nice but they are cheaper than similar houses in ronkonkoma or holbrook.... can someone throw some light on this ?
Does someone live in that area, need to talk to them personally.... hopefully get a feel of things too..... much appreciated......

Robert.

Just because it's not in Farmingville doesn't mean it isn't overrun with illegals. I think the general rule in that area is to stay west of Nicolls Road. However, there are definitely nice neighborhoods in that area; country greens drive, mary lu, etc.

Yeah, the place I am looking is just to the west of country greens drive and a little south of it, on the south side of division St. Does anyone know what schools will the kids go to ? MLS shows 3 elementary schools, can you choose which one to go to ?

Probably the Waverly Avenue elementary school, which is in the Sachem school district. I don't think you're allowed to choose, it goes by where your house is zoned.

You're right - the location of the house determines the school.

I think maybe it's a result of the market in general, but otherwise is the house on a main road (double yellow lines)? or near the power lines? the lipa lines do run thru that area so that could be a factor.

So I guess it will be the first school ?

It got interesting from here onwards.....I hear so many bad things about Farmingville in general and now also holtsville in regards to illegal immigrants etc.... so I went ahead and compared the demographics in the schools.... and give and take 1% the demographics are almost the same. Holtsville schools had less % eligible for free lunches (thats a good thing right ?) so I don't get it.... why is the area regarded a bad ?

I don't know if this will help, but if you click on this link and go to page 6, you might get a better idea which school is for which area? It was a little tough to read for me, but I'm at a laptop, so screen size is limited

Good luck!

There was another similar Farmingville thread on here recently and the general consensus seemed to be that while parts of the town are a pickup spot for day laborers, there aren't an especially large number of illegal immigrants living in the town....and certainly not in the schools.

There was a movie made a few years back called Farmingville, I think that and the visibility of the day laborers probably make things seem a lot scarier than they really are.

Well, I live in Farmingville and I know for a fact that there is a large number of illegals living in the town, not just at pick up spots.

It's still not a bad area by any means though.
