I was in the American Sea Rangers for many years - attended meetings in JHS 217 in Queens - Commander Lyons was one of my fathers best friends - he and my father were amongst those who started the Sea Rangers. Remember well Commander Joe Mason and others who gave of their time to be a part of this organization - Joe had a package delivery service and I had opportunity to work with him on occasion. Even got attacked once by wasps when I was delivering package. But that is history.

There was a Sea Ranger camp - I believe it was up near White Lake NY - only had occasion to go there once or twice myself. Remember a bus trip to Niagara Falls when I was much younger of course. It was a good organization that attempted to build character and patriotism. There were many parades - I remember participating in Memorial Day parades along Hillside Ave. The drill competitions at Kings Point were always a high point of the year and bringing home the big trophies was always rewarding.

Thanks for the memories

John Steele

I thought we did ‘parade’ type things at West Point and Kings Point On LI. But they were Day reviews.
