We are looking into buying a shed. Since this is the first time we ever had any outdoor space, we are at a loss. So many choices, i dont know where to begin. Anyone have any tips to share...which material is better, wood, metal etc. Would you just go to a HD, or is there other places more affordable? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated ! TIA

You can go into Home Depot,Lowes, even some Walmarts. The fiber glass ones are nice, the wood also but seems to be more expensive, the metal could rust but they have had better forms of metal used lately. It also depends on if you are going to do it yourself. They're generally not that hard to put together(wood) and the fiberglass ones are usually the easiest in that respect but I would shop around and check online as well.

Many options - what size? You plan on using it for what purpose?
Don't know what town you're in, but there can be size restrictions if you don't want to bother with a permit.
For example, my daughter bought a small shed to house her kiln - in her case metal was best. The price included the set-up; the company sent someone to do that for her. No permit necessary...

i had a 10x10 plastic shed, it worked great for what i needed it for. i dont remember how much it was but it wasnt expensive, and if i remember correctly, it all basically just snapped together. so it was decently cheap, i set it up myself in probably an hour or so, and i never had any problems with it falling apart or anything. and u never will have to worry about termites, splinters, rust, or paying someone to built it OR take it down if u ever want to move/remove it.

First off, check your town tax dept and ask what size is allowed before they tax you. Here, in Brookhaven, it's 100sqft. And you can put as may as you want on your property with no taxes increase (strange). This is because if you go over 100sf, it becomes garage size -and a garage is taxed (this was the answer the tax guy gave me).
As for the kind, I like the vinyl sided type - no maintenance. Get a barn type - then you can put a loft in and have more storage space. We ordered ours from Kaufield and the delivered it for about 3k.

Stay away from the metal ones, they rust out fast if you store gas ect. in them.
Lowes has a good selection, just check you local codes first for shed size, location, ect.

IMO these are very well built and with a little maintenance will easily outlast most of what you'll get at Home Depot, Lowes, etc..

Places like Kaufolds in Ridge have beautiful, durable sheds that can be built to look like your house. They deliver them & set them up too. They are a family owned business that has been around almost 30 years.
