Caumsett State Historic Park in Lloyd Neck is a great place for hiking (or bicycling); no pets though.
Just google it and check out the site - lots of things to do; from Spring through Fall they have special free programs. Great place and never too crowded (and it's right by the water )

The greenbelt trail starting in Sunken Meadow State park in Kings Park going south......beautiful. I think it runs to the south shore.

Caumset State Part in Loyd Harbor.........sorry if I spelled it wrong.
+1 for the Planting Fields, I remember before it was a state park and you could get a student pass for $10.00 a year.

Avalon in SB, Connetquot State Bark, Caleb Smith, Southaven Park, Bayard Cutting are all good.

Somebody forgot to tell the illegal immigrants not to ride bikes in CSP, though..I wouldn't jog there alone if I were a woman, and watch out for deer ticks, the place is loaded with deer, which are nice but..don't go off the trails. .

Bethpage State Park, free parking till March. Park in the upper lot just past the polo fields. You can grab any one of the trails that border the parking lot and just get lost, it really is a beautiful place. Just don't litter and make sure to be aware of people mountain biking. Enjoy.

Civic Association of the Setaukets

The Greenway is almost ready to open.

Also heard that there was some sort of OK to utilize 12 miles of former ROW along the power lines &/or the old LIRR lines. I misplaced my most recent Setauket Civic Assoc. mailing which described it so I don't remember exactly what it was.
