whoa! after reading the thread about leaving LI and a few others I'd like to find out why those people who don't like it here, find the grass greener on the other side, are staying?

I know if I were unhappy somewhere, if I didn't like the traffic and illegals and thought everyone complained, I'd LEAVE.

Who's more warped, the terse and whiney LIer, or the fool who moves here/stays here in spite of their feelings about it???

Do you mind me asking what he does? Jobs are all over the country... it's the very rare profession in which someone must only be on LI.

Vlorak, I did leave. DH retired and wanted to head South. I've come back six months out of the past five years we've been gone and miss LI terribly when I'm away from it! I'd say do be careful what you wish for, but it's really an individual thing as to whether or not you love/hate LI as seen very clearly here at CD.

As far as the OP's question goes--it isn't easy for anyone to relocate their entire lives. Most people are not foot loose and fancy free. They can't just drive off LI into their next Paradise on a whim! Everyone has a load of entanglements here, jobs, family, kids in school, housing to sell, etc., etc. Sometimes it's just easier to stay put and let off some steam instead.

i have only lived in LI for past 18 months. so i am not an LIer. MD felt more like home to me (state i lived in prior to coming to LI). when we retire we will probably head south. or overseas. i wouldn't mind living overseas for a few years.

Wifes job. LI teacher. Well documented here. The job security and pension are not something to be dealt with lightly, even though we could have a much bigger house elsewhere even with a pay cut, the long terms prospects point to staying here.

Come retirement, I might consider leaving LI if the taxes continue to escalate as they have. DH and I bought this home (an inexpensive older wreck with low taxes) with the thought we could improve upon it but not have the taxes increase in the meteoric fashion many newer ones have. So far, so good.

We now own another home in New England and are contemplating a southern home so we may retire and become snowbirds. We would retain this home as a rental, which would provide income and cover the taxes.

That's the plan. We'll see what fate brings.
