Why do all of the proposals to fix things involve creating new taxes to create revenue to offset their spending of revenue that was never earned? You can't fix this by bleeding people more, especially businesses that are the ones who will create the future job growth. Except for the large health care employers and big employers on LI, smaller businesses will get very creative to offset this proposal if it ever sees the light of day. (Just like high income earners will find a way to reduce their annual salaries below the 250k so that they do not have to pay the additional taxes in the new federal plan).
And in a twisted way, it's also...providing "new jobs"....albiet, patronage, "STATE" jobs !
PLEASE NOTE: This article neglects to indentify NASSAU COUNTY SUPERVISOR SUOZZI, AS A DEMOCRAT.
SURGEON GENERAL WARNING : DEMOCRATS MEAN HIGHER, HIGHER TAXES, AND BIG GOVERNMENT !
Everyone knows Suozzi is a Democrat, after all that is the reason he was elected in the first place to fix the mess Gullotta and his Republican buddies left the county in.
Clearly something needs to be done to improve bus service. How many of you have ridden LI Bus lately? The buses are packed, there's nowhere to cut, and the $3.50 fare will be a killer.

It's interesting, but ever since this past Presidential campaign, the News Media, have been...remiss ?...in labeling politicians with their associated political party information...particularly those, who are Democratic.
In some cases, you actually have to "research" it, just to find out.
I'm guessing, the reason is, to be Energy Efficient, and save newsprint and "keystrokes", and computer memory.
What do they even mean by "regional" bus service? I'm guessing this means expanding bus routes through Queens-Nassau-Suffolk instead of just slight crossovers of the counties on certain lines. Seems like this could be done very easily without funding some massive new program and instead just improving the MTA LI Bus and Suffolk Transit system which are, IMO, desperately in need of improvement even without "regional" routes.

is the $3.50 fare still on the table? LI BUs is used by many people who can least afford this hike. Nassau County does not contribute its fair share to the bus system. I think many of us who are simply using our cars don't care about the increase (or want to support it) but mass transit is a vital part of our county and metro area. $3.50 is insane, especially since many people then use buses or subways in NYC. I think the idea of a regional bus service makes sense as LI Bus is already compatible with NYC bus, but ask yourselves is it fair that NYC bus riders pay much less for the same (and often more efficient) service. Nassau gave 10M last year & Westchester gave over 30M and Nassau is a larger county!
