?????? i am not sure exactly what you mean? yes it does break easy, NO it only has an r value of .03.

the shingles are .5 inches this and have a much higher r value. the are a mixture of asphault/asbestos and sugar cane.

leave them be and then wrap and put vinyl on

anything else is COSTLY and stupid

remove the shingles, tyvek, and add fanfold(R 1.5). this is the proper way to do it.
If a contractor suggests going over them, find another.

you dont know how much time it consists of removing the shingles & desposing them, do you? I have done plenty of houses where the owner insists on doing so and it causes more harm then good.

Yes i do, it took me 12 hours to remove and bag my 1,000 sq ft house. A hack is a hack.
