If I have friends/relatives arriving from a great distance, and I were to live around Rocky Point or Upton, what are the options for them to get to my house?
Can I meet them at a major airport...jfk, newark, lga via railroad? Or should they take a small flight from a major airport to a local airport? Just trying to gauge how difficult it will be for family to get out to a house in suffolk county. Thanks,
Newark is out of the question. LaGuardia and JFK are both in Queens and not that far at all if rush hours are avoided. Either could be reached in 45-50 minutes. Newark would be another hour drive, and you would have to either cross Manhattan or drive around it.
Islip Airport is in Suffolk very near to Rocky Point. It has regularly scheduled comercial flights with major carriers, but to limited destinations.

If they can get to an airport served by Southwest and fly to Islip, it will be relatively easy.
Otherwise, there's at least an hour between you and the other airports, and Newark would be closer to 2 hours. Blech.
Islip is the closest but usually it cost a little more to fly there and not too many carriers fly direct, most have layovers. To Rocky point from Islip/Macarthur is probably a solid 20 minute drive.
If you can get a direct flight to Islip that would be the best bet. If not, then JFK. From JFK they could take a monorail to Jamaica Queens for the LIRR which can take them out to Port Jefferson.

I second that!
